Governance

From novelists to publishers to tutors, the Irish Copyright Licensing Agency CLG (ICLA) is run by a team that passionately believes in and understands the importance of copyright.

We are a licensing body – as defined by Section 149 of the Copyright & Related Rights Act, 2000 – and registered with the Controller of Intellectual Property in the Register of Copyright Licensing Bodies.

Together, our Board works hard to meet the standards put in place by the European Union Collective Rights Management (Directive 2014/26/EU) Regulations 2016, transposed into Irish law through S.I. No.156 of 2016 in April 2016.

In line with these laws, we make sure our operations and governance structures are transparent and consistent, so we can fairly represent Ireland’s talented creators.

Our Board

Five times a year, our Board meets to align on processes, approve financial statements, review treasury policies, and ensure the smooth running of the ICLA. Get to know the members, including three author representatives and three publisher representatives – nominated by their respective organisations – the Irish Writers Union (IWU) and Publishing Ireland (PI) – and one independent chairperson.

Ruth Gill

The Managing Director of Gill, a Dublin-based publisher of non-fiction and educational books.

Conor Kostick

An award-winning fiction author and medieval historian who also worked as a designer for the world's first live action role-playing game, Treasure Trap.

Eugene MacCurtain

The Finance Director at the Educational Company of Ireland, one of the biggest educational publishers in Ireland.

Ivan O'Brien

The Managing Director of O'Brien Press, an independent publisher of adult and children's fiction and non-fiction.

Lissa Oliver

A bestselling author, award-winning journalist, television and radio broadcaster and tutor. Lissa is also on the board of the Irish Writers Union and Irish Writers Centre.

Lenore Poyer

A critically acclaimed novelist, poet, writing professor, and editor. Lenore also serves on the board of the Irish Writers Union.

Jonathan Saint

Since 2017, Jonathan has been the Chairperson of the board. After twenty years in educational publishing he is now an author, writing adult, children’s and young adult fiction.

Our Team

Driven by our commitment to make copyright fair for everyone, we oversee the daily operations of ICLA, ensuring the standards set by the Board are met.

Samantha Holman

Chief Executive Officer

Since joining us as Executive Director in 2001, Samantha has gone on to become a director of the International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organisations (IFRRO), as well as Chair of the IFRRO European Group and the former Chair of the IFRRO European Development Committee. She is also a co-opted director of the Irish Visual Arts Rights Organisation.

Jorid Lindberg

Assistant Director

Overseeing the international relations of the organisation, Jorid is also responsible for Higher Education Licensing and communications.

Marina Fleeton

Marina manages the ICLA office, as well as heading up finance and our human resources department.

Colin Holman

An expert in IT management; Colin looks after our team’s systems development and data analysis.

Catherine Redmond

With expertise in processing, Catherine takes care of data entry, making sure all information is accurate.

Chris Walsh

In charge of licensing and administration. Chris also oversees the daily operation of the Irish Visual Artists Rights Organisation (IVARO).

Georgina Bentliff

Licensing Consultant

With over 30 years of experience in the publishing industry, Georgina is our consultant for licensing and copyright policy.

Linda Scales

Legal Consultant

Our legal consultant who primarily works as a solicitor; Linda specialises in copyright and other media laws which govern the use of creative content.
